It goes to show how difficult it can be to predict which segments of the media are going to die, or going to flourish. I believe the local papers and local TV affiliates are coming around in a big way. A couple of years ago I thought the confluence of Craigslist and news aggregators had eaten their lunch. The Newark Star-Ledger, technically my lifetime hometown paper, launched a consumer-generated video blog, or vlog recently.
This brought a huge smile to my face when I saw it on Beet.TV this morning. Jersiana (see Weird N.J. magazine) and stubborn Jersey pride can only be understood by those born here. We love Cory Booker, can forgive Jim McGreevy, understand the opening credits of the Sopranos, and cheer the recently-incredible Rutgers football team. I'm putting this vlog on a feed. I can't wait to see what the scrappy bretheren upload in the coming months. To quote the classic Jersey 101.5 FM tagline: "Not New York, Not Philadelphia, proud to be NEW JERSEY".
